untitled, Iowa (excerpt)
(5:00 mins, 2020)

This short film and original score honors the spirit of artist Ana Mendieta in the Iowan landscape, where she created many of her seminal earth-body works.

Using microphones placed in and around the body, the score draws inspiration from Mendieta’s Silueta Series, inviting a form of deep listening that blurs the boundaries between flesh, soil, and spirit. The work listens inward—to breath, movement, vibration—and outward to the land that shaped Mendieta’s practice.

Iowa, where Mendieta arrived from Cuba through Operation Pedro Pan, became both a site of transformation and, after her controversial death, her final resting place.

This piece is a memorial. A portrait.
A spiritual conjuring.
